可是现在河里有一只鳄鱼。
The crocodile was hungry too.
He wanted to eat Little Mouse Deer.
鳄鱼也很饿。
他想吃掉小鼷鹿。
When crocodile saw Little Mouse Deer he said,“Do you want to get to the other side of the river?
鳄鱼看了看小鼷鹿，说：“你想到河对岸去吗？
I can help you.
我可以帮你。
Little Mouse Deer did not want crocodile to help him.“crocodile will not help me,”he said to himself.“He will eat me.”
小鼷鹿并不想让鳄鱼帮他。“鳄鱼才不会帮我呢！”小鼷鹿对自己说，“他会吃了我的。”
So Little??Mouse??Deer said,“The king wants me to count how many crocodiles there are in the river.”
于是，小鼷鹿说：“国王让我来数一数这条河里总共有多少只鳄鱼。”
“Make a line in the river,”said Little Mouse Deer.“Then I can count how many crocodiles there are.”
“你们在河里排成一排，”小鼷鹿说，“这样我才能数清楚一共有多少只鳄鱼。”
So all the crocodiles made a line in the river.Then Little Mouse Deer jumped on the first crocodile.
As he jumped Little Mouse Deer said,“One.”
于是，所有的鳄鱼都在河里排成了一排。小鼷鹿跳到了只鳄鱼身上。
他一边跳一边说：“一。”
Then he jumped on the next crocodile.As he jumped little mouse deer said,“Two.”
接着小鼷鹿又跳到了第二只小鳄鱼身上。他一边跳一边说：“二。”
Then he jumped on the next crocodile and the next and the next.As he jumped he said,“Three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine ”
接着小鼷鹿又跳到了下一只鳄鱼身上，然后下一只，再下一只。
他一边跳一边说：“三、四、五、六、七、八、九……”
When he jumped on the last crocodile he said,“Ten!”
当小鼷鹿跳到最后一只鳄鱼身上时，他喊道：“十！”
By now, Little??Mouse??Deer??was on the other side of the river.
现在，小鼷鹿已经跳到了河对岸。
“how many of us are there?”said crocodile.
“我们总共有多少只鳄鱼呢？”鳄鱼问。
“There are ten,”said Little Mouse Deer,“and they are all like you foolish!”
“一共十只，”小鼷鹿说，“而且他们都和你一样——笨！”
Then Little Mouse Deer went off to eat leaves and fruit but Crocodile was still hungry.
小鼷鹿离开去吃叶子和水果了，但鳄鱼还在饿肚子。
